Whether you want something inner city and close to the action, or a secluded space to build your perfect retreat, you’ll find what you’re looking for within the city. Here are just a few of the neighbourhoods to consider if you’re looking to buy land in Calgary.

Upper Mount Royal

Upper Mount Royal is one of Calgary’s oldest and most prestigious communities. Initially settled by American businessmen who came to Calgary in the early 1900s, the neighbourhood has stately homes, impressive city and mountain views, and historic character. Its secluded yet central location means residents are privy to ultimate privacy among old-growth trees while still being within walking distance to boutique shopping on 17th avenue and in the Mission District. This distinguished neighbourhood is home to some of Calgary’s most respected schools and is adjacent to Calgary’s renowned private sports and social club, the Glencoe Club.

Britannia

The affluent neighbourhood of Britannia, conveniently situated in southwest Calgary, offers expansive mountain and river views and is just a quick walk to one of a kind shopping, coffee shops, and restaurants. This mature community also features tall trees to afford extra privacy and is close to many natural areas including Sandy Beach, Elbow River pathways, and the Britannia off-leash area. Britannia is also home to the highest average annual household income of any Canadian neighbourhood. This superb location is ideal for those who want a quick commute to the downtown core without sacrificing an active lifestyle in their down-time.

Elbow Park

With expansive natural resources and unparalleled amenities, Elbow Park is one of the most sought after neighbourhoods in southwest Calgary. It borders the Elbow River, which is home to numerous trails, Stanley and Elbow Park, and has access to canoeing, fishing, and swimming. A crown jewel in the city, the neighbourhood of Altadore has a vibrant cultural and social scene.  It is one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada with a rich mix of parks, green spaces, recreation facilities, and the unique shopping district of Marda Loop. It was named Canada’s top neighbourhood in 2010 and continues to be a hotspot for younger families. It is truly the pinnacle of luxurious city living with estate homes among the action.

Hillhurst

Hillhurst is a charming neighbourhood in northwest Calgary. It borders the trendy Kensington village, which offers a variety of unique shops, restaurants, fitness studios, and coffee shops. Situated next to the Bow River, which is known for leisurely rafting and even surfing, there are many opportunities for outdoor recreation. It’s also a hotspot for investors and has one of the highest resale values in the city. It’s the perfect place for those who want a quick commute to downtown for work and play, and those with families looking for great schools.

Briar Hill

Nestled between Hillhurst to the south, and Rosedale to the east, Briar Hill boasts unparalleled views of the city. Briar Hill is also close to a number of cultural amenities including the Southern Jubilee Auditorium, which hosts many fantastic acts year-round. Expansions are also underway to include a common area, office spaces, and a youth space. A home in Briar Hill means you are still close enough to downtown for a convenient commute while being just far enough away from the core to feel the calmer, residential energy.
