Building A Few Surprises
At Maillot Homes we are inspired by that which inspires our clients! Every home has unique features and extraordinary details that give our team interesting challenges, opportunities to learn, and endlessly enjoyable, creative discussions. Here’s some of our favourite features we’ve built lately.
Won’t Someone Think of the Cats?!
In Spring 2024 we passed possession off to clients who kept two very important family members in mind throughout the design process. Jasper and Daisy, two cats who now call Rosedale home, live in just as much luxury as their human counterparts. We included custom kitchen cabinetry to fit specific cat bowls, complete with drinking faucet for easy refilling at floor level. This home also includes cat nooks with porthole windows to look into the primary bedroom, easy in/out passage for the cats to access their nook at any time, and a separate cupboard opening for the homeowners to access the nooks when needed.
Loft Home Gyms
The views cannot be beat at one of our favourite home gyms we have ever built! The loft level of a Briar Hill home has a wet bar and entertainment room, powder room, rooftop patio, and a gym with a breathtaking view of endless treetops. The rooftop patio, that also includes a fireplace, can be accessed by a door from the entertainment room or through sliding doors from the gym that completely open. It’s the perfect space to let in breezes, natural light, and inspiration while working out.

Concealed Doorways
Who doesn’t love a secluded getaway accessed by a discreet entrance? These doors are hidden flush panel doors, that becomes part of the wall paneling detail. If you know where to push against the wall, you can enter a space all your own.

Hidden Mess
We are obsessed with the butler pantry we designed and built at our recent show home in Upper Mount Royal that included extra food storage, microwave, dishwasher, sink, and plenty of shelving and countertop space. Beyond functionality it’s designed to be bright with white tile and cabinets, light countertops, and warm wood shelving. The pantry (and mess) can be concealed by a pocket door that blends perfectly with the millwork of the hallway. It creates the perfect space for prepping food when hosting, placing your coffee bar, or letting the kids prepare their own quick meals and snacks.

It’s All In The Details
Of course, not everything we build was chosen purely for function. Beauty, intrigue, personal preference and simply falling in love with something all play major parts in shaping the design of a home. For one of our clients in Mount Royal this meant continuous tile in their shower from floor to ceiling, including the shower bench. To allow natural light into the shower, and unobstructed treetop views, there are seamlessly connected panes of glass on both sides, perfectly placed to still provide privacy. The square shower is cozy and warm yet elegant and minimalist.
