Designing A Home That Never Falls Out Of Style

A great way to ensure these unique features don’t start looking outdated, is considering scale and proportion. Find the balance.

When it comes to colour, decide on a neutral colour palette to utilize throughout your home. From there you can add bold pops of colour as small vignettes and unique surprises. Beyond the traditional neutrals of beige and gray we encourage clients to embrace something more adventurous like black or gold. Textured wallpaper or patterned tile is a great way to add depth but can still be part of a cohesive colour scheme. Think linen wallpaper with the extra added benefit of sound dampening properties. Or white ridged wall tile in the bathroom that creates visual intrigue.

When balancing each room consider furniture and decoration that feels equal in grandeur and size. Too much negative space around the furniture can make it feel empty. When in doubt try to create symmetry with similarly sized objects placed in opposition around the room. Symmetry doesn’t mean duplicating but instead seeking equilibrium in your space.

You can never go wrong with natural woods, cabinetry that conceals appliances and painted moldings. These choices are always timeless and are easy to match. With such a strong foundation you can easily play with design trends through items that are easy to exchange or replace, like drapery and throw pillows.
