Building Towards A Work Life Balance

Posted on August 28, 2025

At Maillot Homes, we truly believe that there is nothing more important than the relationships we build with our clients, trade partners and each other at work. This often means we are more than happy to go the extra mile to craft truly exceptional homes. When your colleagues are as good as ours, and the work as enjoyable, it can be heard to put it down at the end of day. All of us at Maillot Homes want to keep going, clear the to do list and fulfill our personal sky-high standards.

Practically this means that we have the tendency to leave our Work Life Balance at the literal door of the homes we build. Though, when you are designing homes for life, you must gain your inspiration from living fully! Here’s how we find our work life balance.

Team Wellness

The F45 in Kensington has been the staff’s go-to work out venue since moving into our Kensington office in March of 2024. A shout out to Coach Alex for making all of us feel welcome! Taking an hour to focus on our physical health, while motivating each other to dig a little deeper, feels aligned with how we approach all our work.

Our Vice President, Sarah, has been the main influencer of gearing up for lunch time lifts. Alongside our President, Rob, the two of them make an incredible team of true community connectors. When you phone the office to chat about sales you will likely be directed to chat or email with these two as the start of your home building process. They are highly motivated at the gym and in the office, not only growing gains but growing the company as well. In just a year we’ve added eight new positions to our team! Now that’s what we call progressive overloading our weight.

Wellness also extends to meals! Brody, our Construction Manager, can often be found chatting recipes with Veronica, our Planning and Design Manager, who is the ultimate informant on all things Venezuelan cuisine. Not to mention the entire staff’s love of pastries and sweets! Gathering over staff meals, counter-side snacks, and sharing our favourite restaurant recommendations is just part of creating a warm community atmosphere we extend to everyone who enters our office.

Job Sharing

Building a new luxury home can take 18 months to 2 years. This is a long time for us to be focused, present and detail oriented on a single project, which is why it takes a village! Each of our Project Managers have a few homes they are comprehensive facilitators of. They know the schedules, trades, clients, neighbours, and every detail happening in the home. However, it’s important to not feel tied to the job and to trust your team mates to carry on the project with integrity in your absence.

All our sites are also supported by four Site Assistants and four Designers who are all committed to high quality finishes, site safety and cleanliness, and keeping our clients informed. With homes as complex as the ones we build, we rely on the specialization of several trades. Coordinating schedules, budgets, and monitoring quality is a shared effort across departments. This ensures the unique features and selections are ready and waiting for our clients on possession day.

All the Maillot staff work collaboratively on every project. This makes for a smooth transition for our clients from build to occupancy to warranty services. We have an extended Warranty package that keeps our relationships with clients blossoming for years.

Work & Life On The Go

As life changes, so do we! At Maillot Homes we encourage a work from home day at least once per week. Our Business Manager, Katharine, uses these days for long tasks that need hours without interruption. Alicia, our Marketing Coordinator, uses her work from home days to work on video editing or other tasks desk neighbours might find annoying. In building an environment for every staff member to have work life balance, we understand it looks different for everyone.

When the team does come back together in the office for our weekly meetings it makes the time together efficient and cherished.
